CATANZARO – 23 JUNE 2025. From Umbria to Calabria, Italy's brewing scene celebrates the winners of the 12th edition of the Cerevisia Award, the most prestigious national recognition dedicated to quality craft beer. Among the absolute protagonists of this 2025 edition is Calabria itself, which won five awards with three regional breweries, marking an unprecedented achievement.

Standing out in particular was the Kalabra brewery, which took home two first prizes in two of the most coveted categories of the competition: IPA and Blanche. This is an absolute first for the region, as never before had a Calabrian brewery won two gold medals in a single competition, confirming an excellence now established on the national scene.

The results of the other two Calabrian breweries in the competition were also significant: Gladium, which won a first prize in its category, and Birra Cala, which took first place and a third prize mention. In total, therefore, five recognitions for Calabria, a haul that highlights the qualitative growth of the region's brewing production.

Confartigianato Imprese Calabria congratulates the two member breweries that were awarded: Kalabra and Gladium continue to enhance, with passion and commitment, the efforts made daily to foster the growth of a sector with numerous potential and positive impacts on the entire territory.

The Cerevisia Award, promoted by Assobirra, CERB (Research Center for Beer Excellence at the University of Perugia) and the Chamber of Commerce of Umbria, stands out for its selection method: an independent scientific jury evaluates the beers anonymously, based on organoleptic criteria as well as rigorous chemical-physical analyses, to ensure maximum transparency and reliability of the results.

This year, over 140 finalist beers from 27 Italian breweries participated, selected on a regional basis from almost 1,000 active craft breweries. The official ceremony was held on June 17 at the Conference Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Umbria, in Perugia.

The 2025 Excellence Award – given to the beer with the highest overall score – went to Gorilla Barley Wine by Mastri Birrai Umbri. But the real achievement, in terms of both quantity and quality, was that of Calabria: a result that confirms the region as one of the most dynamic and promising in the Italian craft beer scene.
