If you are looking for a place to enjoy typical Catanzaro cuisine, you will be spoiled for choice. In fact, you can choose from a typical family trattoria, a starred restaurant, sandwich shops (including famous brands), and pizzerias. In the coastal area, you can enjoy dishes based on very fresh fish, depending on the catch of the day. If you are a fan of this type of dish, try asking to eat “surici,” the dialect name for the prized comb fish (or pettinissa). Its peculiarity is its very white, delicate, and tasty flesh, which is best enjoyed fried. This fish species is not very common along the Italian coasts and even in Calabria itself it is not found everywhere. In Catanzaro, you eat very well wherever you go.
