"Today, here at the Museum of Arts, the exhibition of Alessandro Russo comes to a close but, at the same time, it opens seamlessly in the prestigious catalogue we are about to present," began the event moderator Luigi Stanizzi as he greeted the large and distinguished audience present at the Marca in Catanzaro. The artist Alessandro Russo was naturally very satisfied with the outcome of the exhibition, and he touched on his long and rich artistic journey: "From rallies, ancient themes," he said, "anthropological, made up of portraits, allegories, and the sarcasm of politicians, to industrial and port cities. The content is always the same, only the places, the illusions, the ruins left by industrialization change. And now," Alessandro Russo pointed out, "the Recovery Art cycle, in which real objects are applied to the canvas and integrated into the painting, a short circuit between reality and representation." Francesco Brancatella, a Rai correspondent for thirty years, spoke of his long-standing friendship with the artist: "He painted a view of Ponte Sisto, a real but also evocative painting, capable of making the present feel like nostalgia." Former student Vittoria Camobreco specified that Russo's teaching had profoundly influenced her education: "I understood that artistic discipline is a tool to open worlds, to bring beauty to everyday life." The municipal councillor for Culture, Donatella Monteverdi, starting strictly from the theme linked to the presentation of the catalogue "Alessandro Russo. Works 1990–2025" published by Dario Cimorelli, said that "it represents a tool of emotion but also of reflection, capable of capturing an epochal moment. The exhibition and the book – according to Monteverdi – make us look at time with new eyes." Of the highest caliber was the video link from Milan with Marco Meneguzzo, curator of the catalogue and the exhibition: "The exhibition is a temporary visual experience, a book is something more, an object that carries with it the whole history of an artist, condensed, alive. Leafing through these pages is like reconstructing relationships, connections, trajectories. There are a hundred works that tell thirty years of language, of transformations, of vision.” Answering questions from journalist Francesco Stanizzi, the famous art critic Marco Meneguzzo said: "Russo stands out for his courage in working with historical models, the view, the urban scene, genre painting, only to transfigure them. His are not simple views, they are presences. You don't look at them from the outside, you enter them, you live them. It is the best result a view can achieve: to make you want to be there.” The critic recalled Russo's first works linked to rallies, leading up to the "post-atomic" urban landscapes, where the sky seems changed, the cities appear more alive and colder. For an artist – Meneguzzo explained – what he paints is necessary, urgent. Vice President of the Province of Catanzaro, Francesco Fragomele, drew the conclusions, very satisfied with the outcome of the exhibition and for having hosted an initiative of high artistic and cultural value. Here are his words: “We are proud to have hosted a project that has managed to attract a large and attentive audience, confirming itself as a major event in the cultural landscape of our city. For Alessandro Russo, this is a significant return, an important recognition that ties his artistic journey to these roots." Fragomele then highlighted the Province's commitment to cultural promotion through museums. The artist Alessandro Russo, recalling that he has visited many museums around the world and that the Museum of Arts in Catanzaro is second to none, recommended that the Province maintain high standards. Among those present were top collectors such as entrepreneur and sculptor Luigi Verrino, president of Banca Centro Calabria Giuseppe Spagnuolo, deputy general manager Gianluca Valastro, journalist Fabio Migliaccio, historian Nando Castagna, former mayor lawyer Marcello Furriolo, entrepreneur Lorenzo Speziali, journalist Franco Cimino, lawyer Aldo Costa, former deputy mayor and former superintendent of the Politeama Theatre, Cettina Mazzei "Ambassador of the Albanian Nation in the World", Prof. Antonio Falbo and many artists and enthusiasts.
