On the morning of Sunday, June 15, the Carabinieri of the Soveria Mannelli Company (CZ), assisted by the canine units of the “Calabria” Airborne Hunters Squadron, arrested a 58-year-old local man, with previous police records, found in possession, without any authorization, of a pump-action rifle and a revolver, both lacking identification elements and, therefore, considered clandestine. The presence of these weapons inside an old farmhouse, located in the countryside of the small mountain town of Reventino, did not escape the infallible nose of the dog “Marley,” perfectly trained in the search for weapons and explosives, and the meticulous search operations carried out by the Carabinieri.
During the operation, numerous rounds of ammunition of various calibers were also seized, likewise illegally held and compatible with the aforementioned firearms, as well as two precision scopes and an air rifle that may have been modified to increase its power beyond the limits allowed by law. Also in the man's possession were two pyrotechnic devices that the bomb disposal experts of the Catanzaro Provincial Carabinieri Command defined as homemade and bearing counterfeit labels. It should be remembered that the possession of explosive products not recognized and classified by the Ministry of the Interior, or lacking the “CE” marking, is prohibited by art. 53 of the T.U.L.P.S., which punishes offenders with imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years and a fine from 10,000 to 100,000 euros.
The offender, reported under arrest to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Lamezia Terme (CZ), was taken to the Catanzaro-Siano Prison and, after validation by the Preliminary Investigations Judge, was subjected to the precautionary measure of custody in prison.
The proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase.
Once again, the timely intervention of the men of the Benemerita and its Special Units made it possible to recover illegally held weapons and ammunition that would certainly have been destined for the commission of crimes in an area affected by criminal dynamics that have never completely subsided.
