CATANZARO – 14 JUNE 2025. This afternoon at 6:30 pm, in the hall of Palazzo Mazza in Borgia, the meeting entitled “The Forgotten Femicide. The Case of Loredana Scalone” will be held, promoted by the Democratic Women of Calabria. An event of great symbolic and civic value, to bring back to light the story of Loredana Scalone, killed in November 2020 and too soon slipped into silence.
During the event, the portrait created by the artist Giulia Maglionico will be presented, who wanted to restore to Loredana the face and dignity that were denied to her. The work will remain on permanent display at the Municipality of Borgia.
Among the institutional voices present, also the regional councillor Amalia Bruni, who has always been committed to the issue of equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.
“Remembering Loredana – declared Amalia Bruni – does not only mean bringing attention back to a tragic episode, but demanding justice for all the women who have been killed and forgotten. Femicide is not a crime report to be filed away, it is a political, cultural, social fact. We must move beyond the rhetoric of benches and slogans: what is needed is a constant, widespread, institutionally strong commitment, starting from education, passing through support for anti-violence centers and reaching the construction of a public network that truly protects those who report. Today our task is to give voice back to Loredana and to the many invisible Loredanas that no one talks about.”
Among those taking part in the meeting, among others, will be the mayor of Borgia Elisabeth Sacco, the journalist and criminologist Ilaria Bonuccelli, Loredana’s sister Giulia Scalone, and the national spokesperson of the Democratic Women Roberta Mori, in connection with the artist Giulia Maglionico and the art critic Francesca Baboni. Moderated by Bakhita Ranieri, MiC official and writer.
