"A new project is starting from Catanzaro that aims to promote sustainable mobility and enhance the territory by bringing together the coastal municipalities of the lower Ionian. 'Calabria Looking to the Future' is the title of the project that the council led by Mayor Fiorita wanted to launch, also welcoming my contribution, for the creation of a new 28-kilometer cycle and pedestrian route, also accessible by vehicles, which involves, in addition to Catanzaro, the municipalities of Borgia, Simeri Crichi, Sellia Marina, Botricello, Cropani, and Belcastro.

A concrete example of an initiative aimed at supporting the cultural and tourist development of the communities overlooking the sea, aiming to create a new infrastructure downstream of the existing Ionian railway, offering an ecological and attractive alternative to the current road connections. A proposal that sees Catanzaro as a possible implementing body in the request for specific funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, through the Directorate General for Local and Regional Public Transport and Sustainable Public Mobility, drawing on the Fund for the Development of Urban Intermodal Cycle-Pedestrian and Vehicle Routes.

An initiative that therefore aims to create a functional connection not only from a logistical point of view, but also for its intrinsic cultural value and the ability to offer territories the opportunity to share new mobility experiences. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of transport, but also to enhance the tourist and cultural offer of the Region: just think that, thanks to the proximity of the cycle-pedestrian route to the Ionian railway, train/bike interchange areas could be created, supported by a widespread bike sharing system along the entire route. At the same time, this idea could represent a valid tool for promoting slow tourism by creating a virtuous circuit between landscape, villages, historical monuments, flavors, arts, and crafts of our lands.

The hope is that the process for requesting funding can proceed positively, helping to put into practice that vision of the Greater Catanzaro that Mayor Fiorita strongly believed in, imagining new forms of dialogue and collaboration between the territories."
