The 25th edition of the Catanzaro Jazz Fest, which will take place in Villa Margherita on June 21 and 22
as part of the initiative “Ci vediamo da Margherita”, on the occasion of the Festa della Musica, is
this year part of a broader national project, entitled "Trasform-azioni: a passo di
jazz", which promotes the combination of jazz music and slow-paced walking.
Starting from the anniversary of the 150th year since the birth of Guglielmo Marconi, which occurred in 2024,
the Trasform-Azioni “A passo di jazz” project aims to offer a new vision of the Italian landscape
through the dialogue between art and science, with a program involving 9
Italian regions and over 30 associations and municipalities. An opportunity to rediscover the
cultural and landscape heritage through jazz concerts, walks, sound installations, and inclusive
activities, all linked to the theme of the spread of music through radio waves, a symbol
of Marconi's legacy. An innovative aspect that will materialize in the production of the podcast “A
passo di jazz”, curated by journalist Valentina Lo Surdo, which will accompany the public in
discovering the territories and festivals featured in the project.
The Festival will present a double concert on June 21: at 8:30 pm the Tchaikovsky Jazz Trio,
composed of Francesco Cerullo on piano (17 years old), Giacomo Cerullo on double bass and electric bass
(13 years old), and Guido Rovere on drums (20 years old), will host the voice of Diletta Carrozzino (22
years old), a very young group that stood out in the “Jam Session a Palazzo
Stella”, an initiative born in collaboration with the Conservatory of Nocera Terinese-Catanzaro, which from
January 27 to May 3 saw performances by students and teachers of the Conservatory and beyond.
Following, at 9:30 pm, the Lorenzo Iorio Trio, a Calabrian instrumental music project,
composed of: Lorenzo Iorio, electric guitar; Alessio Iorio, bass and double bass, Maurizio
Mirabelli, drums, was created with the intention of mainly proposing original music with a strong
passion for research and experimentation in sound and composition, inspired by
the great Bill Frisell, already a guest at the first CJF (1997). The trio's latest album, Anatomy
of a Dream (Filibusta Records, 2024), recorded live in analog mode at
“At the Place Studio” by Alessandro Guido, a member of Atlantide and historic sound engineer of the Catanzaro Jazz
Fest, will be presented.
This 25th edition also benefits from the collaboration of WeStart, the Music Production Center
of Eastern Piedmont, for the project Ballad for a Tree, on Sunday, June 22 at 8:30 pm, a
meditative acoustic sound journey where the main element is the tree together with the surrounding nature,
with the participation of saxophonist Francesco Caligiuri.
The Festival will be introduced by the itinerary “Le Vie della Seta”, curated by tour guide Dr.
Angela Rubino who, starting and ending at Villa Margherita, from 5 pm to 8 pm on June 21,
will lead visitors to discover neighborhoods, palaces, and churches in the historic center that bear the
traces of the ancient art that in antiquity made Catanzaro famous worldwide.
All initiatives are free, including the itinerary, which requires a reservation at the following
numbers: 3396574421-3929280406.
