Talks and book presentations in the afternoon, DJ sets at sunset, music and cinema under the stars in the green lung of the historic center of Catanzaro. This is the successful formula of daMargherita, the cultural and entertainment container that, for its seventh edition, becomes a "festival" offering a calendar of six days, with free admission, dedicated to cross-pollination in the historic meeting and gathering place of Villa Margherita.
The event, promoted with the participation of the Municipality of Catanzaro and under the patronage of the Calabria Region, will be inaugurated Tuesday, June 17, at 6:00 pm, with the presentation of the book “Gli uomini che hanno parlato con Dio. Ennio Morricone e Fabrizio De Andrè. Le musiche e le parole che sono arrivate al Cielo” by Sergio Dragone and Mons. Antonio Staglianò. The latter, president of the Pontifical Academy of Theology, the famous "bishop with the guitar", will discuss with Marcello Barillà the relationship of two great Italian artists with God, analyzing their works and reflecting on their vision of the world and faith. The first evening of daMargherita will also mark the beginning of a new path of research and promotion of short films with the screening of “Hidden Time” by Giovanni Soldi, followed on Wednesday, June 19, by the short film night promoted in collaboration with the Calabria Movie – International Short Film Festival. Cinema under the stars will also offer screenings of new and old titles such as “The Holdovers”, “Un colpo di fortuna”, “Monsieur Lazhar” and “FolleMente”.
The program will offer some live music performances of great interest such as Anastasio, the artist who already won X Factor, back on stage with his rap work “Le macchine non possono pregare”; the Italian-Palestinian singer TÄRA with her Arab’nB, which represents a bridge between cultures; Catanzion, Kuanito and Maddawg who will bring reggae and Calabrian rhythm; the young it-pop singer-songwriter Speedy. The villa will also echo with the notes of records spun by DJs Pazz and DJ Red, Lubrano, Luca Sorrentini, Mbatò.
The literary talks will also feature Letteraturap by Alessio Mariani - aka Murubutu - teacher and storyteller, who will offer an opportunity to reflect on the expressive and educational potential of rap. Another guest will be Matteo Gallello, curator and author of Bromio Magazine, a biannual print publication on wine and food culture in Italy. There will also be space for social issues and health with the project “Dalla cura al prendersi cura”, dedicated to oncology patients, carried out at the Dulbecco hospital by the Angela Serra association, “Stefanizzi” section of Catanzaro.
As part of daMargherita, the collaboration with Catanzaro Jazz Fest is renewed, which this year, on the occasion of the Festa della musica, is part of the broad national project, entitled "Trasform-azioni: a passo di jazz", coordinated by the national I-Jazz network and funded by the MIC, which brings together the most important Italian jazz festivals, connecting music, territory, and technological innovation. Scheduled between June 21 and 22 are concerts by the Tchaikovsky Jazz Trio, a group of young talents from the Catanzaro Conservatory, the Lorenzo Iorio Trio, and saxophonist Francesco Caligiuri. The Festival will be introduced by the itinerary in the historic center “Le Vie della Seta” with departure and arrival at Villa Margherita.
“The municipal administration led by Mayor Nicola Fiorita did not want to miss its usual support for an initiative that, year after year, has distinguished itself for bringing interest and participation back to Villa Margherita, combining identity, traditions, and experimentation,” emphasizes the Councillor for Tourism of the Municipality of Catanzaro Vincenzo Costantino. “A commitment that is renewed through a rich and varied program that speaks to the territory and takes up the challenge of involving, especially the youngest, in an open-air arts journey.”
“Ci vediamo daMargherita is the slogan that has accompanied us since the first year, contributing significantly to the rediscovery and revival of a symbolic place in the city,” comments the President of the da Margherita association, Vincenzo Nocita. “In this edition, we have tried to raise the bar even higher, bringing to Catanzaro different and innovative cultural experiences that fit with the mission of our project. By talking about current events and intercepting tastes and trends of every audience group, we hope once again to experience an intense week of healthy togetherness.”
