For the "Ponte Corace" of Gimigliano, often referred to as “the great forgotten patient,” a definitive resolution is underway, after more than 12 years since the previous conservative intervention, which we must clearly consider as contingent rather than definitive.
This morning, at Palazzo di Vetro, in the
presence of Councillor Giuseppe Rotella and the Mayor of Gimigliano, lawyer Laura Moschella, who has always been constantly attentive and present and with whom we have always shared the project’s development, the RUP Eng. Roberto Iiritano, the
Head of Roadways Eng. Vincenzo Coppola and the Director of Public Works Eng.
Eugenio Costanzo have initiated the tender process, with the approval of the executive project and the simultaneous launch of an open procedure for awarding the works by managerial decision no. 931 of 27/05/2025. The intervention will allow the complete rehabilitation of the bridge with the reopening to traffic in both
directions and without load limitations, as well as providing an adequate structural improvement against seismic action. The intervention is divided into 2 functional lots: the first for an amount of 3.3 million euros, at the
end of which the Province of Catanzaro reserves the option to modify the contract with further works called complementary lot 2 for an additional 2 million euros, obtained in 2023 and necessary for the complete realization of the intervention. The start of works is estimated by autumn 2025 for a total duration of 430 days and a necessary closure to traffic of about 300 days. There is satisfaction for the bridge recovery project, whose hydrogeological instability issues
affecting the area have caused the interruption of connections between Gimigliano and Tiriolo. Mayor Laura Moschella, always determined on this goal, is already taking action to minimize the inconvenience related to road conditions that may arise as a result of the works
being carried out
