That the establishment of the Giovino Dunes nature reserve is a matter of extraordinary importance for Catanzaro is beyond question. Just as the project, already launched some time ago by the Fiorita administration, for the protection and enhancement of the area, supported by an agreement signed with the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, is of extraordinary importance.
What is laughable, on the other hand, is the ordinary inability of the Lega member Riccio to recognize altruistic work. Riccio simply cannot bring himself to say that a project he did not do is simply beautiful, period. He cannot bring himself to say that it works, period. He cannot bring himself to admit that since it is not his own doing, he is disappointed. And since this destabilizes him, he even ends up accompanying his press releases with beautiful and evocative photos, in an attempt to prove the opposite, that is, the ugly. Oh well, we will get over it.
Also because it is evident, to anyone who is intellectually honest, that the Giovino Dunes cycle-pedestrian path is a virtuous example of environmental protection. From the moment the work is completed, the Dunes, the reserve, will finally become a place that can be visited and enjoyed by all those who want to enjoy and appreciate a space with all possible protections, since there will be fences to protect it. The draining and low environmental impact path will be built where previously illegal riders used to race on the dirt with motorcycles and off-road vehicles, polluting the ecosystem to the point of making it difficult even for spontaneous vegetation to grow. In short, the city will be able to fully enjoy one of its most important environmental assets, strengthening that awareness necessary to protect them. To Riccio, who is bitter about the good work we are doing, we can at least offer a small consolation: the admission that, after all, we are not inventing anything new. In Valencia, Spain, in the Albufera park, there is a cycle path exactly identical to the one we are building in the Catanzaro area. A place that allows everyone, children, people with disabilities, the elderly, cyclists, families, to enjoy places that deserve to be known and experienced in harmony with the natural environment. It is not clear why Riccio dislikes cycle paths so much. It is likely that he prefers muscular SUVs to bikes or walking shoes.
