The Councillor for Labour and Vocational Training, Giovanni Calabrese, took part in the meeting of the Advisory Committee on the rules for the exercise of the delegation of administrative functions over areas of the maritime state property (pursuant to Article 5 of Regional Law No. 17/2005), chaired by the general manager of the Environment Department, Salvatore Siviglia.
Also attending the meeting, which was held at the Cittadella headquarters in Catanzaro, were regional managers Roberto Cosentino, of the Uoa Enhancement and Promotion of Natural Heritage, Gabriele Alitto, manager of the Promotion and Protection of Nature and the Sea – Maritime State Property sector, and the general manager of Arpacal, Michelangelo Iannone.
Also present, among others, were the mayors of coastal municipalities delegated by the regional Anci, and representatives of the most representative bathing associations in the area.
During the meeting, which was also useful for gathering the requests of operators relating to the 2025 bathing season, Councillor Calabrese illustrated the initiatives put in place by the Calabria Region and addressed the main issues raised by representatives of the trade associations.
Specifically, they discussed maritime state property concessions and the role of lifeguards; the approval of municipal beach plans for coastal municipalities; the notice for the granting of contributions for beach cleaning, currently being published; the Kaire notice for seasonal work, and the start of the process for regulatory changes to the Regional Law on maritime state property.
The discussion highlighted the need for active contribution and participation from all stakeholders present at the table, in order to ensure effective and shared management of the issues addressed.
In this regard, Calabrese emphasized the importance of synergy between institutions and associations to identify effective and sustainable strategies. In particular, the need to improve coastal management through the definition of municipal beach plans, which to date have been adopted by about half of Calabria's coastal municipalities, was reiterated.
The participants highlighted the critical issues affecting the bathing sector in Calabria and the need to chart shared paths with public bodies and institutions, to promote the best use of the sea resource, and to continue on the path taken with the periodic convening of the Committee.
