The work is an updated re-edition of what Verdegiglio and Mancosu published in 1998. After decades of doubts, controversies, and controversial research, this book is the most complete and up-to-date Italian work on that tragedy. From it, the identity of the real killer emerges clearly, revealing a completely surprising conclusion. Based on various official investigations and accredited researchers, both in Italy and abroad, Verdegiglio (who saw the President parade in Naples on July 2, 1963) retraces, from the very first hours of the drama, all public and private investigations, as well as the numerous "revelations" that have occurred over these sixty-two years, also making use of the collaboration of well-known forensic pathologists, criminologists, and ballistics experts. To confirm the data that emerged from the research, the Author personally carried out shooting tests with the Italian Carcano 91/38 rifle used by Lee Oswald and various inspections in Dallas, Washington, Boston, and New Orleans, also analyzing and refuting the theories of Jim Garrison, Mark Lane, Oliver Stone, Giovanni Minoli, and Gianni Bisiach. The work guides us through the intricacies of a tragic and at the same time fascinating story and constitutes the most convincing and truthful answer to all the questions we have asked ourselves over these decades about the "crime of the twentieth century." The very recent order to declassify the last documents on the "Kennedy crime" by American President Donald Trump has created further anticipation to know the definitive data of a story that in 1963 shocked the world. For those who read the results of this research by Verdegiglio free from prejudice and erroneous evaluations, it will be possible to appreciate its historical validity and documentary seriousness.
The Author's nonconformist theses will surely spark a heated debate and great interest among scholars and enthusiasts of twentieth-century history.
