Throughout the province of Catanzaro, especially during the summer season, there are many events and festivals that attract a large number of people and also have the merit of enhancing the places where they are held.

MAGNA GRAECIA
FILM FESTIVAL
The Magna Graecia Film Festival is an event, created in 2004 from an idea by brothers Gianvito and Alessandro Casadonte, dedicated to first and second works. It has received support from personalities such as Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli, Citto Maselli, Ugo Gregoretti, and many others. The presence at past editions of stars such as Matt Dillon, Matthew Modine, Mira and Paul Sorvino, Nastassja Kinski, Pamela Anderson, Tim Roth, Rupert Everett, Richard Dreyfuss, Oliver Stone, Cristopher Lambert, Richard Gere, John Landis, and Susan Sarandon, confirms the international level of the proposed initiative. The event is completely free and takes place towards the end of July in the port area of the Lido district.

AUTUMN FESTIVAL
The Autumn Festival, created in 2003 by Antonietta Santacroce, who is also its artistic director. Born as a baroque festival, it has slowly transformed into a wide-ranging musical event, characterized by the coexistence of different musical genres (pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, r&b), together with acting, ballet, and cultural exploration in a broad sense. Among the artists who have participated are: Michele Placido, Giorgio Albertazzi, Monica Guerritore and Arnoldo Foà, Luis Bacalov, Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Manhattan Transfer, Ray Gelato, Noa, Tony Hadley and famous Italian artists including: Nicola Piovani, Loredana Bertè, Al Bano, Franco Battiato, Lucio Dalla, PFM, Vinicio Capossela, Fabrizio Bosso, Nina Zilli, Stefano Bollani, Alex Britti, Neffa, Irene Grandi, Renzo Arbore, Ornella Vanoni, Fiorella Mannoia, Mario Biondi, Arisa and the Baustelle. It takes place in the months of October and November.

ARMONIE D’ARTE FESTIVAL
Armonie d'Arte Festival has always embraced the incomparable and archetypal charm of the Scolacium archaeological park, adding contemporary value to its intrinsic worth. The cultural strategy of its creator and artistic director, Chiara Giordano, has proven to be extraordinarily successful in enhancing this cultural asset, a site of excellence for the entire southern area. Enchanted places that over the years have hosted personalities of the caliber of Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Josè Carreras, Lorin Maazel, Svetlana Zacharova, Stefano Bollani, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Gilberto Gil, Lindsay Kemp, Paolo Fresu, Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Nicola Piovani, among many others. It takes place mainly during the summer period in Roccelletta di Borgia.

CATANZARO JAZZ FEST
The Catanzaro Jazz Fest was founded in 1997, named after the regional capital by the artistic director Francesco Panaro, with the aim of making it a stable, identity-defining event. It is one of the longest-running regional jazz festivals, recognized beyond the borders for the quality of its guests, often for the first time in Calabria (Bill Frisell, Kenny Wheeler, David Friedman, Danilo Perez, Lee Konitz, just to name a few). A point of reference and a springboard for many young musicians, appreciated by critics and the media, through the experimentation of new formats, sounds, locations, and periods, from the traditional autumn/winter season to the spring/summer one.

THE SPICY NIGHT
The “Spicy Night” is a characteristic, rich, and varied festival that takes place in the historic center of the regional capital, usually right after the summer season. The event was born 16 years ago from the intuition of the then Municipal Councillor for Tourism, Roberto Talarico, who on September 29, 2007, organized a “white night” with a Catanzaro twist. The idea was to showcase everything typical and traditional of the capital city, starting with its symbolic dish: Morzello. The slogan “others like it white, we like it spicy” was meant to identify the event with a typical dish. However, the event is not a food festival, but something different, unique, an “excuse” to discover the beautiful historic center of Catanzaro and savor the spicy Morzello, accompanied by a glass of red wine, while various kinds of initiatives and shows are held in the squares.
