There are rules of civil coexistence, even before political ones, that cannot and must not be violated. All the more so if the subject is tragic, such as the death in a road accident of a young father and his little daughter.

Yet there are those who, meanly, have no qualms about violating them, showing that there is even something worse than pain: speculation on pain. There is something more indecent than fireworks on a wrong night: it is those who fan the mourning of others to shine their own spotlight.

Regional councillor Antonello Talerico, between a press conference and an outraged statement, chose to exploit a tragedy, using tones that have nothing to do with respect and truth. Instead of getting informed, he preferred the usual show of "I'm the only one who feels humanity," while offending those who work in silence, with a sense of proportion and institutional conscience.

Let's clarify, since he didn't: the municipal administration immediately activated every possible channel to stop the fireworks show at the end of the patronal festival in the Lido district; it contacted the festival's organizing committee and also the president of the Regional Council, Filippo Mancuso; it suggested suspension, receiving a refusal justified by strict technical constraints and contractual commitments, by then no longer revocable.

This is the paradox of reality: those who had neither the power nor the authority over the event, because the Lido festival is a parish festival, tried at least to avoid the fireworks show after the tragic event.

Those who today launch accusations did not lift a finger and show up the next day to distribute shame.

Not a word for Emanuele and Giorgia, only an embarrassing and shameful political attack.

Not a gesture of sobriety, only a campaign built on the pain of a family and an entire city.

If there is someone who should reflect on the meaning of respect, which in certain circumstances must translate into a sense of humanity and silence, it is precisely the one who wrote that statement: a masterpiece of opportunism disguised as indignation.

Catanzaro does not deserve this desolate spectacle. And certainly did not deserve lessons in morality from those who chose the noise of controversy instead of the silence of mourning.
