The Regional Council should stop and not force through the approval of the law establishing the University Hospital Company of Cosenza. Calabria does not need a second university hospital, which would only serve to "compete" with the one in Catanzaro, shifting significant financial and human resources to the banks of the Crati. The well-founded objections of the Legal Department of the Regional Council, also echoed by majority regional councillors Katia Gentile and Antonello Talerico, should prompt reflection on the advisability of passing a law that benefits one area to the detriment of another. In a few days, the second commission of the Regional Council, chaired by Antonio Montuoro who represents the Catanzaro district, will have to give an opinion on the proposal and decide whether to forward it to the Assembly. I appeal to Montuoro's "Catanzaro spirit," asking him not to become complicit in a hostile act against our City and the Central Area of Calabria. It was a serious mistake to allow the creation of the second faculty of medicine at Unical, a disastrous operation endorsed by Rector De Sarro without any compensation, unless one considers as compensation the degree course in "perfumery and cotillon" announced by the rector of the penultimate Italian university.
It is not possible to go any further; it would even be a crime against Catanzaro to allow the creation of a university hospital in Cosenza that will absorb a huge amount of funding and resources and would make the "Dulbecco" a "second-class" institution.
I am literally amazed by the silence, on such a vital issue for Catanzaro, of Mayor Fiorita, Provincial President Mormile, the deputies, the Order of Doctors, and the unions themselves. Do they not understand or do they pretend not to understand that if this law passes, in a few years there will be no trace left of the faculty of medicine in Catanzaro.
