The 22nd edition of the Magna Graecia Film Festival is about to begin. From tomorrow, Saturday, July 26th until August 2nd, a long week of screenings, meetings, musical performances, talks on politics and health will bring big names from the national and international scene to Calabria. The setting will be the waterfront of Soverato where the spotlights will shine to welcome the stars of cinema and entertainment.

It all starts tomorrow evening with the first highly anticipated guest, Toni Servillo, who will treat the audience to an auteur conversation, prompted by questions from journalist Fabrizio Corallo. The actor, winner of multiple Nastri d’Argento, David di Donatello, European Film Awards, is one of the most recognized and appreciated faces of Italian cinema: according to the New York Times he is one of the 25 greatest actors of the twenty-first century. With “La grazia” by Paolo Sorrentino he will open the next Venice Film Festival, the seventh film made together with the Neapolitan director. The evening’s program also includes the screening of the first title in the Italian debut and sophomore works section, “La déluge – gli ultimi giorni di Maria Antonietta”, in the presence of director Gianluca Jodice. At the Supercinema, the documentary program will also open, at 6:30 pm with “No More Trouble” by Tommaso Romanelli, and the international section, at 9:30 pm with “Il Maestro che promise il mare” by Patricia Font.

On Sunday, July 27th, another of the audience’s most beloved actresses will take the MGFF stage, Margherita Buy, winner of numerous David di Donatello, Nastri d’argento, Globi d’Oro and Ciak d’Oro awards, currently the most awarded actress ever in Italy. In 2024, she also debuted as a director with Volare, for which she is also the screenwriter. The second film in competition will be “Familia” by Francesco Costabile, with him also one of the cast members, Francesco Di Leva, winner of the David di Donatello for best supporting actor. There will also be a musical moment with Chiamamifaro, a young singer-songwriter who recently participated, up to the final stage, in Amici di Maria De Filippi. At the Supercinema, from 6:30 pm, screenings of “Il cammino – viaggio in Calabria”, as part of Sguardi di Calabria, introduced by director Mattia Leonardo De Blasi. To follow, a special event with the presentation of “Faber, ironia e poesia”, a documentary by Leonardo Metalli dedicated to Fabrizio De Andrè.

The MGFF is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Calabria Straordinaria – brand of the Calabria Region – Department of Tourism – Calabria Film Commission and the Municipality of Soverato. The Colonna d’Oro awards presented during the festival are made by Brand GB Spadafora.
