The Calabrian summer is dressed in enveloping notes and movements full of passion thanks to the Summer Edition of the Festival d’Autunno. It is not just a program, but a symphony of emotions that promises an unforgettable cultural experience, with as many as four exclusive national premieres, including two brilliant original productions by the Festival.

The beating heart of this edition is the theme “CambiaMenti. Timeless Languages”, a vision that celebrates the art of weaving together the boldest contemporaneity and the deep roots of our tradition. From August 6, the magic spreads: some of the most picturesque villages in Calabria will be transformed into open-air stages, under the expert artistic direction of Antonietta Santacroce.

“With the Festival d'Autunno – declared Santacroce – I have always wanted to make the beauties of our region shine through culture. This year, in August, our stage expands to embrace Soverato, Montauro, Borgia and, for the first time, Squillace. The offer of this summer edition is of the highest quality, with internationally renowned artists ready to make every live show a unique and unrepeatable moment. And my joy is great for the two original productions of the festival, true gems that, I am sure, will enchant our audience.”

An exciting journey through music, dance and stories

Opening the dances of this Summer Edition will be a singer-songwriter with a musical sensitivity that touches the soul. Wednesday, August 6, Pierdavide Carone will lead us to the Arena Teatro Comunale di Soverato with the national premiere of “Caruso e altre storie. Tributo a Lucio Dalla”. More than a simple tribute, it will be a deep and moving immersion in the lyrics, as well as in the melodies of an absolute genius of Italian music. Carone will be supported by the prestigious Coro Lirico Siciliano, one of the most important in Italy, and the powerful voice of tenor Giuseppe D’Acrissa, conducted by Francesco Costa, with arrangements and piano by Maestro Corrado Neri.

The rhythm does not stop, on the contrary, it becomes pure expression of the body with the second summer national premiere. Thursday, August 7, the historic Grangia di Sant’Anna in Montauro will be the backdrop for “Over The Rainbow”, a show that is a true hymn to joy, an explosion of colors and harmonious movements. The young and talented artists of the Compagnia Artedanza will bring to life a ballet where intense human emotions are revealed through the thousand shades of the rainbow, with the choreography of Giovanni Calabrò promising an unforgettable evening, full of cheerfulness and contagious positivity.

The innovative essence of the Festival: the Original Productions

The first original production of the Festival, in this Summer Edition, gives us a double unmissable appointment. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of the great Georges Bizet, his masterpiece “Carmen” will be reinterpreted in a jazz key in the show “Carmen Jazz Fantasy”. Tuesday, August 19, the majestic Castello Normanno di Squillace will host this national premiere, where the passionate drama of the original opera merges with a renewed and enveloping jazz energy. The emotion is doubled Wednesday, August 20 in the evocative Palazzo Mazza di Borgia. For both dates, Alessandro Meacci will retrace the highlights of the famous opera with piano and electronic music, completing the soundscape with the evocative melody of Francesco Salime’s saxophone and the flexible voice of Erica Salbego.

The conclusion of this extraordinary Summer Edition of the XXII Festival d'Autunno will be a true musical triumph at the Arena Teatro Comunale di Soverato. Thursday, August 21, a deep and totally engaging sound will invade the stage with “Cotrà. La chitarra battente”, the concert of the Francesco Loccisano Trio. This original production of the Festival is also a national premiere, and represents a sound bridge that unites the musical traditions of the South with global influences, the result of Loccisano’s work “Onde d’urto” and his unmistakable chitarra battente. Live, he will be accompanied by Tonino Palamara on percussion and cajon, and Antonio Cusato Quel on bass.

The Summer Edition is just a promising taste of what awaits us in autumn. The great events of the XXII Festival d’Autunno will resume with renewed momentum in October, bringing other shows to the city of Catanzaro, all endowed with a magnetic force capable of uniting the languages of tradition with the most innovative and contemporary ones. Get ready to experience a summer full of art and unforgettable moments, a perfect prelude to an autumn to be discovered and celebrated.
