A new playground for sports will be built in Via Fares in Catanzaro, which will help redevelop a part of the city and return a space for socializing to the neighborhoods. The Municipality of Catanzaro has signed an agreement with Sport e Salute S.p.A. for the implementation of the intervention funded with 200,000 euros as part of the “Sport Illumina” Project promoted by the Minister for Sport and Youth, through the Department for Sport. The capital city was among the entities ranked in the public notice addressed to municipalities with the aim of creating modular, inclusive, recognizable, and functional spaces for sports and recreational activities.
The mission of “Sport Illumina” is to return to citizens authentic, accessible, and safe gathering places. In addition to sports flooring and furnishings, the area identified by the Municipality of Catanzaro will be equipped with lighting, provision for video surveillance and defibrillators, guaranteed accessibility for people with disabilities, and a uniform and colorful visual identity that will make the intervention recognizable as part of a shared national project.
Specifically, Sport e Salute will act as the implementing body and contracting authority in order to guarantee all technical and administrative services related to the intervention and will assume management of the facility for the agreed duration of six years. The procedures for participation in the call were followed by the Major Works sector directed by Giovanni Laganà. “There is great satisfaction for an operation that will allow the construction of a new public space equipped for sports,” commented the Councillors for Public Works, Pasquale Squillace, and for Sport, Antonio Battaglia. “An investment that fits into the perspective of revitalizing and enhancing places for socializing in the neighborhoods, carried out by the Fiorita administration, while at the same time promoting the values of participation and health promotion.”
