Text by city councilor Vincenzo Capellupo.
“In recent days, it was the commissioner himself and president of the Region Occhiuto who pointed out that relations between Rome and Calabria regarding healthcare are very tense. At stake is the recovery plan and a healthcare system that is actually in disarray; the only successes in this field by Occhiuto have been attacks on Catanzaro. A real certainty!
The overall management of resources in healthcare by Occhiuto seems to respond to logics other than the right to health and respect for patients, professionals, and territories. Otherwise, it is hard to explain the flood of resources transferred to the Cosenza polyclinic, without there yet being any kind of ministerial recognition, resources also used for the recruitment of new medical executives. And it is still hard to explain the theft of the cardiac surgery positions from Catanzaro to move them to Cosenza, without even waiting for the ongoing judgment at the Council of State. And again, it is not clear why more than a month has passed since Occhiuto, essentially admitting the lack of resources for the Catanzaro hospital, wrote to Inail asking for funds to cover the entire need for the intervention, about 500 million euros including the health citadel, without apparently having yet received any serious response.
A planned and programmed strategy, that of the Cosenza-born Occhiuto, to destroy the healthcare of the Regional Capital and to concentrate all interventions in his own electoral district. Not even in the face of this truth has the Catanzaro center-right been outraged, so faithful to the line as to prefer complicit silence to denunciation, while the healthcare of the Region and the Capital is being debased every day that passes, the Catanzaro men of commissioner and president Occhiuto try to fool the people of Catanzaro by talking about potholes and bushes. To all this are added problems of service organization - it is not known how much created on purpose by the political-administrative leaders, perhaps to continue to discredit the professionals and structures of the Capital - which, however, are all falling on the patients. Perhaps someone wants to hide that Calabrian healthcare today is the result of the strategic choices and appointments of the president of the Calabria Region and commissioner Occhiuto? And if even the Cuban doctors, so much praised by him, are starting to flee from Calabria, then the situation is really much more serious than it appears from the watered-down and glossy stories of the president-commissioner on social media.”
