This morning, in Satriano (CZ), the Carabinieri of the Soverato Company together with those of the Labor Inspectorate Unit (NIL) of Catanzaro executed an order for house arrest, issued by the GIP of the Court of Catanzaro, at the request of the local Prosecutor's Office, against a person who is the legal representative of a company operating in the commercial sector, strongly suspected of having committed the crimes of illegal intermediation, labor exploitation, and extortion.

At the same time, the GIP issued a preventive seizure order, aimed at confiscating the entire company and the assets instrumental to the business activity, with the simultaneous appointment of a custodian and judicial administrator of the assets.

The investigation, launched in January 2024 following statements obtained from two workers who reported unlawful conduct by the employer, made it possible to outline the existence of illegal labor exploitation carried out by the suspect; specifically:

the employees were employed for 10 hours a day instead of the 4 provided for in the part-time employment contract;

the actual duties performed as cashier and shop assistants were different from those in the contract (cleaning staff);

each worker could be absent for a maximum of three days per month and no other days of absence were allowed;

days of absence were deducted from the salary;

failure to pay social security contributions in favor of employees amounting to 166,688.00 euros;

it was revealed that employees were forced to return part of their salary in cash, under threat of dismissal;

it was found that working conditions were very poor, including monitoring employees through video surveillance systems.

The criminal proceedings are at the preliminary investigation stage.
