The Palagiovino project is beginning to take shape. Mayor Fiorita: “An ambitious concept to make Catanzaro the first tennis city in Calabria”
The first “citadel” of tennis in Calabria is beginning to take shape. At Palazzo De Nobili, the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicola Fiorita, the sports councillor, Antonio Battaglia, and the head of the Major Works department, Giovanni Laganà, met with representatives of the Temporary Grouping of Professionals, who have been entrusted with the design of the Palagiovino. They presented the first concept for the complex project to create a multipurpose indoor facility in the large area between Via Carlo Pisacane and the Giovino pine forest.
The intention pursued by the municipal administration, beneficiary of a PNRR funding of 4 million euros, is to combine the highest standards required for facilities aspiring to host national competitions with the goal of regenerating and enhancing the environmental context of the Giovino pine forest. The details of the project idea were explained by Marco Cappa, as leader of the RTP, which also includes Franco Rovense, Antonio Luzzi, Giusy Manfredi, Daniela De Angelis, Daniela Di Stilo, and Giovanni Misasi. The core aspects of the project are environmental, energy, and management sustainability, which can be applied to the multipurpose use of the new space, covering a perimeter area of almost 2,000 square meters, equipped with all essential services – including playing fields, stands, locker rooms, gyms, lounge area, and club house – designed to be connected with the surrounding green areas.
“There is every intention to step on the accelerator towards an ambitious project that can make Catanzaro the first tennis city in Calabria,” commented Mayor Nicola Fiorita. “We will work closely with the designers to achieve this goal together and seize all the opportunities that may arise from such a far-reaching project, in the area with the greatest tourist potential in the capital. For this reason, the administration’s commitment will be to foster new possible synergies both with the Calabria Region and with the Italian Tennis Federation, in order to integrate and enhance the project proposal towards an investment that is as productive as possible for the territory.”
