With the signing of the collaboration agreement with the Calabria Region for the “Theater in the Provincial Capitals” initiative, Catanzaro is preparing to do its part as part of an innovative system action in the cultural field, which will involve the administrations of the five provincial capitals of Calabria. The agreement specifically concerns a series of infrastructural interventions aimed at the buildings where theatrical activities take place, with the goal of improving their usability and, consequently, encouraging greater and easier public participation.

The planned investment for each administration amounts to 500,000 euros and, in Catanzaro, the sum will be allocated to carry out maintenance and restoration work on systems, furnishings, and stage sets in the Politeama Theater and the Casalinuovo Auditorium, by the scheduled deadline of 2026.  For the Councillor for Culture, Donatella Monteverdi, this is “the realization of a strategic path to which the municipal administration of Catanzaro, as the lead entity, has given a strong impetus in terms of proposals and ideas, aimed at building a dialogue between the capital cities and the Region capable of marking a new way of acting in cultural policies. The signing of the agreement and the first meetings of the thematic working groups have paved the way for a broader project which, we hope, may soon have a natural follow-up also in terms of structured and dedicated support for artistic programming in our theaters.”

The project sheet for the works concerning the Politeama and the Auditorium was prepared by the municipal technical offices. “The 500,000 euro funding will concern the priority interventions on the two structures, according to the program outlined by the administration and in compliance with the schedule indicated by the Region,” adds the Councillor for Public Works, Pasquale Squillace. “The hope is that the method inaugurated with this type of agreement can foster an even more fruitful institutional dialogue between the Cities and the Region and experiment with sustainable and balanced operational models for all territories.”
