OCCHIUTO MEET AT THE REGIONAL CITADEL WITH THE
80 MAYORS AND COMMISSIONERS OF THE CATANZARO AREA - DISCUSSION ON THE
ISSUES EMERGED WITHIN THE "ITINERANT" PROVINCIAL COMMITTEES
FOR LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY.

Yesterday, convened by the Prefect of Catanzaro, Castrese De Rosa, and the President
of the Regional Council of Calabria, Roberto Occhiuto, a discussion table was held in the Green Room of the
Regional Citadel, attended, in addition to Regional Councillors
Giovanni Calabrese and Gianluca Gallo, together with the Heads of the relevant Departments,
the President of the Province, Mario Amedeo Mormile, the Mayors and Extraordinary Commissioners
of the municipalities of the province, also connected remotely, the Extraordinary Commissioner
of ASP, Antonio Battistini, together with Deputy Commissioner Ernesto Esposito,
as well as the heads of the Fire Brigade Command, Calabria Verde, Consorzio Unico di
Bonifica, Enel, Sorical, Arrical and Anas.
The initiative arose from the need to jointly address the issues that emerged during the
"itinerant" Provincial Committees for Law and Public Safety,
held in the Catanzaro area, so far seven, now at the penultimate meeting.
The topics discussed were water shortages, management of
issues related to the presence of wild fauna, management of road traffic in the
summer period with reference to provincial roads including SP90, hydrogeological
instability, river maintenance and cleaning of ditches and canals, forest fires
and related prevention and control measures, medical guard and continuity of care services.
The meeting proved to be a useful moment of discussion aimed at providing answers to the
problems that the municipalities face daily, with the aim of strengthening

institutional collaboration, also through the establishment of dedicated tables, for large areas and
homogeneous districts.
In particular, with regard to medical guards and continuity of care, the
increase in staff and the implementation of Community Health Houses and Hospitals was guaranteed; in
relation to water shortages, the invitation to eliminate waste and combat illegal
connections was renewed, ensuring prompt interventions in case of network malfunction and
investments aimed at efficiency; regarding the problem of wild fauna, the
extension, within the limits established by law, of the hunting season was established; as for
road traffic, an update was given on works nearing completion; finally, on
hydrogeological instability and forest fires, attention was drawn to the need to
increase prevention activities, also through the signing of specific agreements between
the municipalities, Calabria Verde and the Consorzio Unico di Bonifica, aimed at cleaning ditches and
drainage canals, in addition to those already in place with the Fire Brigade and the Calabria Region for
the AIB campaign.
"Networking in the face of such widespread problems," said the Prefect of
Catanzaro, "is essential to reason in a systemic logic without closing ourselves off
and without any presumption of having ready-made solutions or magic wands. I want to thank
President Occhiuto, and the regional councillors who attended together with the Heads of the various
Departments, for sharing the decision for this expanded table, a tangible sign
of closeness to the Mayors, and which we will replicate in the future on specific topics that will be
brought to attention by the territories, as also stated by President Occhiuto."
