Today Catanzaro loses one of its most important sons, Pino Pingitore: half a century of art and graphic design from Calabria.
Born in 1953 in Spezzano della Sila, but a Catanzaro native by adoption, Pino Pingitore was a central figure in the Calabrian art scene. His career, which began in 1969, was marked by continuous experimentation between painting and graphic design, making him one of the most versatile artists in the region.
A journey between art and communication
Pingitore began his artistic activity at a very young age, participating in collective experiences such as the “Gruppo Mauthausen” and the “IV Marzo” group, which marked the cultural scene of Catanzaro in the 1970s. At the same time, he developed a career in graphic design, founding in 1985 the “Studio Pingitore comunicazione visiva”, the first visual communication studio in Calabria. In 1991 he created the advertising agency “C&P Associati”, expanding his influence in the field of visual communication.
Artistic explorations and exhibitions.
His artistic production ranges from the gestural abstraction of the 1980s to the “Scrigni” series of the early 1990s, characterized by dark and bituminous tones. In recent years, Pingitore integrated digital art with classical painting, exploring concepts of “fluid memory”, a symbol of our uncertain and ever-changing times.
Among his most significant exhibitions, we remember:
- “L’anima e la visione/1969-2019” at MARCA in Catanzaro, a retrospective celebrating the 50 years of his career.
- “Astratto Fluido” at the Galleria Arte Spazio in Catanzaro, where he presented over 30 works highlighting his expressive maturity.
Contributions to the territory
In addition to his artistic activity, Pingitore contributed significantly to the visual culture of Calabria, designing logos for institutions such as the Fondazione Politeama and the Protezione Civile. Recently, he exhibited his works in the exhibition “Tra memoria segnica e memoria fluida” at the Banca Montepaone headquarters, transforming the bank space into an art gallery and demonstrating how art can be integrated into everyday life.
Pino Pingitore was a reference figure in contemporary Calabrian art, with a career that testified to the importance of experimentation and integration between art and communication.
At the end of the 1970s, together with other partners, he created the "Nuovo Studio" graphics and advertising, which was transformed in 1982 into Ad Service snc advertising & image, personally managing the creative department until 1988 when he decided to devote himself more to his career as an artist and advertising graphic designer
