The 22nd edition in Soverato from July 26 to August 2
After the announcement of Ambassador Denise Capezza and of Margherita Buy and Toni
Servillo awarded with the Colonna d’Oro for Lifetime Achievement, the
lineup of guests at the Magna Graecia Film Festival 2025, conceived by
brothers Alessandro and Gianvito Casadonte, dedicated to debut works and emerging authors,
and which will be held in Soverato from July 26 to August 2, is further enriched.
Marco Giallini will also arrive in Soverato, where he will receive the Colonna d’Oro created
by Brand GB Spadafora and will be the protagonist of a conversation on stage
in the arena moderated by journalist and documentarian Fabrizio Corallo.
Marco Giallini is an Italian actor with a theatrical background whose career now includes
over 70 titles in film and television. Born in Rome, during his adolescence he developed
a great passion for theater that led him to attend the “La Scaletta” theater school in Rome,
while also nurturing a love for rock music, playing in a Joy Division cover band called Sandy Banana & The Monitors. His
career is marked by collaborations with some of the greatest names on
the stage, such as Arnaldo Foà, Ennio Coltorti, and Adriano Vianello. Long
courted by the world of film and television, he was convinced in 1998 by
director Marco Risi to accept a role in L’Ultimo capodanno, where he played
Monica Bellucci’s husband. Following his collaboration with Risi, Giallini’s name
became increasingly in demand, while his growing success was also due to his anti-star DNA,
which exerts a great fascination both on the public and among industry professionals. In 2008, his notoriety increased thanks to the TV series
Romanzo Criminale, and he expanded his audience by starring over the years in a series of hugely successful films including ACAB – All Cops Are Bastards by
Stefano Sollima, Posti in piedi in paradiso by Carlo Verdone, Perfetti
Sconosciuti and Follemente by Paolo Genovese. With his leading role
in Rocco Schiavone, the hugely successful Rai series now in its sixth season,
Giallini has become a familiar face to Italians. He currently boasts 6
David di Donatello nominations and 3 Nastri d’Argento wins. A lover of a private life,
he lives in a small town on the outskirts of Rome.

The MGFF 2025, founded and directed by Gianvito Casadonte, will offer a rich
program of events and film screenings as part of competitions dedicated
to sections of Italian debut works and documentaries, curated by Antonio Capellupo, and
international debut works, curated by Silvia Bizio, who is also responsible for
conversations with international talents. The novelty this year is the addition of
another section—directed by Jacopo Curcio and Luca Capacchione—which will present
a selection of the best short film debuts, further enriching the festival’s offering and
cultural mission, which has always focused on promoting and
enhancing young talents. Another piece resulting from the collaboration
with the Picentia Short Festival of Battipaglia, which will bring to the MGFF—for two
special evenings—the best of its selection of national and international short films,
hosted in recent years as part of the event that enlivens
the Campania region with screenings, meetings, and masterclasses dedicated to
short films.

The MGFF is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Calabria Straordinaria – the brand of the
Calabria Region – Department of Tourism – Calabria Film Commission and the Municipality of
Soverato. The Colonna d'Oro awards given during the festival are made by Brand
GB Spadafora.
