Mayor Nicola Fiorita attended the inauguration of the new “Maddalena” shelter home on Via Fiume, in the Lido district, managed by the Città Solidale Foundation in agreement with the Social Policies sector of the Municipality of Catanzaro. The facility was created to offer support to women who are alone, pregnant, or with children, facing a delicate phase in their lives without family support. Inside, a team works in close coordination with local social services to define socio-assistance support projects aimed at achieving personal autonomy and possible social reintegration. Alongside the mayor and the president of Città Solidale, Father Piero Puglisi, were also present the Archbishop of Catanzaro, Mons. Claudio Maniago, the Prefect of Catanzaro, Castrese De Rosa, and Don Savino d’Amelio, president of the National Work for Southern Italy, owner of the property entrusted for use and made available after appropriate restoration work.
“Today is an important day that sees the opening in the city of a new home for women in conditions of vulnerability and loneliness who will be able to count on the listening and support of those who cooperate in the network of social assistance services,” commented Mayor Fiorita. “The work that Città Solidale has been carrying out for many years in the area, supported by the Municipality of Catanzaro, represents an irreplaceable tool for the protection and recovery of the most vulnerable groups. Universal values, such as those of hospitality and inclusion, find their concreteness in the valuable work guaranteed every day by the Third Sector, which is an indispensable pillar alongside the institutions.”
