
In the residence of Sellia Marina of the Grand Officer Commander Giuseppe Procopio, a holy mass was celebrated in suffrage of his son Giovanni, on the seventh anniversary of his death. The rite was officiated by priests Don Giuseppe Cosentino, Don Raffaele Rimotti, and Don Giovanni Scarpino. For the occasion, Commander Procopio commissioned a sculpture of Saint John Paul II by the artist Francesco Bisceglia, from San Giovanni Rotondo, which was placed inside the facility. The mass was enlivened by master tenor Amerigo Marino, from Pentone, returning from a tour in Shanghai and Toronto, who sang Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus, Davanti al re, Fratello Sole e Sorella Luna. At the conclusion of the rite, Grand Officer Commander Giuseppe Procopio announced that, in memory of his son Giovanni, he will build a large social-healthcare facility for the care and assistance of the elderly in Sellia Marina. Among the family members present were his wife Antonietta Ceravolo, sons Domenico and Antonio, grandchildren including lawyer Giuseppe Procopio, and friends including TV host Massimo Brescia. Commander Procopio, for his charitable activities, received many years ago the Mar Jonio Award, founded and chaired since 2000 by Luigi Stanizzi. At the end of the evening, a fireworks show by Mimmo Bevacqua; iconographic services by Davide Ionà. Security was provided by the National Carabinieri Association of Sellia Marina, in particular by president Salvatore Scandale and members Francesco Pellizzi and Francesco Scalise, with preventive action also by the fire brigade detachment, also from Sellia Marina.
