"The serious hygienic and sanitary situation that continues to persist along via Smaldone, in the Gagliano district, has long been under the attention of the municipal administration which, several times, has written to the Province, as the owner of the road, urging the Authority to intervene to remove the waste and clean up the area.
I have personally taken an interest in the matter in recent months, acting as a spokesperson with official communications - I mention my latest certified emails from last February and May - reporting citizens' complaints and asking the municipal hygiene office to formally communicate with the Province. In the same letters, I also emphasized the opportunity to install video surveillance cameras in the area that could serve as a valid deterrent, allowing for the identification and sanctioning of those who abandon waste in the rest area.
To date, after a further reminder from the Municipality, the provincial administration, environmental protection service, in a communication dated June 10 addressed to its own road sector, has in fact acknowledged the responsibility of the Provincial Authority in having to guarantee the necessary interventions to restore the decorum and safety of the area.
I hope that this does not stop at a simple back-and-forth of responsibilities between sectors of the Province, but that action is taken, ensuring cleaning in a short time and planning every useful solution so that an open-air landfill is not continuously recreated."
