RICCIO: “FROM FUNDS FOR EDUCATION TO IDEOLOGICAL CARNIVALS: THE MUNICIPALITY FUNDS GAY PRIDE AND FORGETS THE FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS. WE ARE READY FOR THE BARRICADES.”
“What is starting today in Catanzaro, under the hypocritical guise of a cultural initiative leading up to Gay Pride 2026, is yet another ideological carnival financed with public funds – and, even more seriously, coming directly from the Department of Public Education. This is not only outrageous, but it is a slap in the face to families, schools, and those who fight the real social emergencies of this city every day,” declared Eugenio Riccio, City Councilor of the Center-Right.
“That today, June 26, International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the municipal administration has not planned any initiative dedicated to the prevention of addictions, and has instead preferred to inaugurate an ideologically connoted event, is a worrying and unacceptable signal,” Riccio pressed.
“We are faced with an administration completely disconnected from reality, which mortifies the educational and social function of institutions to chase identity battles that divide the community and strip the school’s role of meaning. Education funds must be used to educate our young people, not to finance politicized parades or propaganda events,” the Councilor continued.
“While Mayor Fiorita and his majority are willing to put their stamp on folkloric and divisive initiatives,” Riccio concluded, “we, as the Center-Right, are ready for the barricades, both institutional and political, to defend the dignity of public schools, the common sense of the city, and the fundamental values of our community. We will continue to loudly proclaim our ‘no to all drugs’ and denounce every abuse of power and every misuse of public funds.”
“Catanzaro deserves an administration that seriously invests in culture, prevention, and support for the social fabric. We will not be intimidated: if necessary, we will defend those principles firmly inside and outside the council chamber.”
