At the Magna Graecia Film Festival, one of the most acclaimed actors of Italian cinema and theater, Toni Servillo, will receive the Colonna d'oro for his career. He is the first guest announced for the event, which will take place in Soverato from July 26 to August 2. Servillo will be awarded the recognition created by Brand GB Spadafora and will be the protagonist of a conversation on the arena stage.

In his career, rich in successes between theater and cinema, he has acted in films by Mario Martone, Antonio Capuano, Paolo Sorrentino, Elisabetta Sgarbi, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Andrea Molaioli, Matteo Garrone, Stefano Incerti, Nicole Garcia, Claudio Cupellini, Daniele Ciprì, Marco Bellocchio, Roberto Andò, Francesco Amato, Donato Carrisi, Igort, Leonardo Di Costanzo, Paolo Genovese, Gabriele Salvatores, Stefano Sollima, Marco D’Amore, Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza.

Among his many awards, he has won the David di Donatello four times and the Nastro d’Argento as well as the Marc’Aurelio d’Argento for best actor at the 2010 Rome Film Festival for Una vita tranquilla by Claudio Cupellini. He has twice won the Best European Actor award, in 2008 for Gomorra by Matteo Garrone and Il divo by Paolo Sorrentino, both awarded at the Cannes Festival, and in 2013 for La grande bellezza by Paolo Sorrentino, winner of the 2014 Oscar for best foreign film.

The MGFF, founded and directed by Gianvito Casadonte, now in its twenty-second edition, will offer a rich program of events and film screenings as part of the competitions dedicated to the sections of Italian first works and documentaries, curated by Antonio

Capellupo, and international first works, curated by Silvia Bizio, who is also responsible for conversations with international talents. The novelty this year is the addition of a further section - directed by Jacopo Curcio and Luca Capacchione - which will offer a selection of the best debuts in short films and which enriches the proposal and the cultural mission of the Festival, always attentive to the promotion and enhancement of young talents.

The MGFF is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Calabria Straordinaria – brand of the Calabria Region – Department of Tourism – Calabria Film Commission and the Municipality of Soverato. The Colonna d'Oro awards presented during the festival are made by Brand GB Spadafora.
