
SOVERATO – 20 JUNE 2025. An opportunity for qualified discussion to talk about the future of the area and the growth opportunities linked to the construction of the Baia Soverato-Satriano tourist port. The meeting, promoted by the Rotary Club Soverato and titled "The Baia Soverato-Satriano Tourist Port. Feasibility – Tool for Opportunity and Growth," will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 21, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the Sala Supercinema in Soverato (Via Sorelle Scoppa). The event, with free admission, is held under the patronage of the Regional Council of Calabria, the City of Soverato, and the Municipality of Satriano.
The event will be opened by the president of the Rotary Club Soverato, Pietro Daniele, followed by institutional greetings from the governor of Rotary International District 2102 Maria Pia Porcino, the mayor of Soverato Daniele Vacca, and the mayor of Satriano Massimiliano Chiaravalloti. The moderator will be RAI journalist Emanuela Gemelli.
The program of speeches is rich and varied, starting at 10:30 a.m. with a presentation by Prof. Felice Arena, Vice Rector and director of the NOEL lab at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, who will delve into "The effects of port construction on beaches." Next will be engineer Paolo Contini, legal representative of MODIMAR, with the talk "The Paraggio of Soverato: development hypotheses." Professor Anna L. Melania Sia, associate professor of Navigation and Transport Law at the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, will instead discuss "Tourist ports: economic relevance and regulatory issues."
There will also be space for the design vision with architect Maurizio Benvenuto, author of the proposal awarded in the ideas competition announced by the regional administration, who will present the "Project presentation of the Port." The economic framework will be outlined by Dr. Francesco Spadafora, Deputy Branch Manager of Catanzaro at the Bank of Italy, with a reflection on "The economy of Calabria." The contribution of a student from the Soverato Scientific High School will be dedicated to the theme "SOS gas emissions from stranded organisms in the Baia di Soverato regional marine park."
Starting at 12:15 p.m., there will be institutional speeches by the president of the Regional Council of Calabria Filippo Mancuso, the Secretary-Quaestor Councilor and president of GAL Pesca versante ionico Ernesto Alecci, and the president of Confindustria Calabria Aldo Ferrara.
To conclude the event, once again, will be the president of the Rotary Club Soverato, Pietro Daniele, promoter of the initiative, which aims to serve as a concrete stimulus for constructive dialogue among local authorities, experts, academics, and citizens, in view of a strategic project for the tourist and environmental development of the area.
